Software Distribution System

• Basic Info:

  The software distribution system desgined for Kenai has roots back to the early 2000s. At that time, no effective system existed to meet the growing demand of distributing software. Existing systems were inefficient, requiring multiple copies of the software to reside in servers geographically close to the user.

  Over a number of iterations, the KPBSD Software Distribution System has evolved into a de-centralized, peer-assisted delivery product allowing software to quickly transfer to needed computers, without putting undue stress on Wide Area Network (WAN) links, or requiring massive amounts of IT-managed disk storage. These efficiencies combine to reduce IT staffing costs and increase end-user productivity by delivering software on-demand, often beginning installation within seconds.

  Coupled with the KPBSD Software Management system, the Software Distribution System completes an end-to-end solution helping to realize the vision of hyper-efficient IT operations, while maximizing value to instructional users.
