Software Management

  • Basic Info:

Software management and license tracking using the KPBSD Software Management system revolutionized the way IT delivers software from a very early stage. During the very initial stages of PC deployment in early 2000/2001, it became clear that effectively managing software licenses was a complicated task. IT staff time quickly became a bottleneck to effective software installation: a request would arrive for installation a given product, the license would need to be verified, complex records would need to be checked to be sure the license count was not exceeded, and finally the software would need to be scheduled for installation on a given computer.

To address these issues, the KPBSD Software Management system was developed. The system allows for licenses to be entered and allocated to buildings, as appropriate. Once a one-time allocation of licenses is complete, typically at the time of purchase, designated end-users at the building level have the ability to access and assign these licenses to individual computers.

This model ensures that licensing obligations are met, while delivering value to end-users by allowing rapid deployment of purchased software. In conjunction with the KPBSD Content Delivery service, software installations often start within seconds of assigning a license.
